Equity Bank Entryway Trip Hazard Elimination – Overland Park, KS

The Problem

Equity Bank had reached out to the team at Olympic Concrete Lifting to address some hazardous conditions that had presented themselves due to sinking concrete. The shifting of the concrete had created several trip hazards in the front of the building along most of their walkways. This raised liability issues as it was unsafe to walk on. Part of the settling was due to water entering below the concrete surfaces due to improper seals on many of the joints that ran around the perimeter at the front of the building.

The Solution

Olympic Concrete Lifting diagnosed all the issues on the concrete that had begun to sink on the exterior of Equity Bank. Olympic Concrete Lifting used very small and non-invasive drill holes throughout the affected areas. Using a hydrophobic Geotechnical Polyurethane Foam provided by Polypier, a US company, was injected below the concrete surfaces. All concrete slabs were lifted back to their original height, or as much as the surrounding structures would allow. All voids were filled to ensure a stable foundation below all concrete surfaces. Once all slabs were properly lifted and void filled, Olympic Concrete Lifting used backer rod and a high strength polyurethane joint sealant to properly seal all joints around the surfaces. This helps ensure no water or moisture can enter below the concrete surfaces.

The Results

It is extremely important for businesses such as banks, hospitals, restaurants, entertainment venues and more to maintain safe walking environments for their customers and other general traffic. Knowing the liability that Equity Bank was in, they reached out immediately to have these issues solved. Olympic Concrete Lifting had the job completed in one day with no downtime for Equity Bank. Using a high quality polyurethane foam provides a fast set up time, non-invasive, and minimal downtime on most of its applications. Robinson Middle School Slab Stabilization and Lift – Topeka, KS

The Problem

The following field observations were made by Terracon Engineer on June 7, 2023 at Robinson Middle School located in Topeka, Kansas. Core locations were established in the field at general locations. They cored through the existing floor to evaluate the subsurface to assess the presence of any voids. In addition, they sampled the subgrade soils at the selected core locations using a mechanically driven Shelby tube sampler. A void was encountered immediately below the concrete slab at all three core locations. The voids ranged in thickness from ¾” to 2 ⅜”. These voids had also been a factor in the slabs sinking in the affected areas. The approximate area of stabilization and lift was 2,800 sq. ft. The school district needed a team that would complete the work with minimal disruptions and closures to the facility. This is a huge factor in remediation and repair work on commercial structures like schools, business warehouses, parking garages, apartment complexes, and other concrete slab facilities that cannot afford to close down for a long period of time.

The Solution

The Topeka School District had reached out to several companies to evaluate and solve these existing problems. Our team at Olympic Concrete Lifting were chosen to come in with the right solutions in addressing all concerns. The Olympic Concrete Lifting crew used approximately 2,500 pounds of Geotechnical Polyurethane Foam System by US company, Polypier. This product helped in the stabilization of the lower-level slab on grade by filling all the voids below the slab. The void depth ranged from ¾” to 2 ⅜” based on borings provided in the Terrecon report. The slab was lifted as close as possible to the original elevation without loading or damaging existing interior partitions. Portions of an existing stage floor were removed to gain access to some of the concrete slab. Olympic Concrete Lifting was non -invasive using small drill holes and the material being used left the school district with no downtime based on our rapid set time.

The Results

The Topeka School District needed a team that would have the job completed between May 26, 2026 and July 12, 2026. Our team at Olympic Concrete Lifting knew there was only one week between the time school ended for Summer Vacation and the start of Summer School. It was our priority to ensure that there was to be no downtime for the staff and students who would be arriving back for school activities on June 1, 2026. Olympic Concrete Lifting had the job completed in four business days May 26- May 29, 2026. The staff and administration were very pleased with the timing and the results.
