Stabilizing a Settled Interior Concrete Floor
Olympic Concrete Lifting was called to a Price Chopper in Overland Park, Kansas, after significant settlement was discovered in an interior concrete floor near one of the store’s cooler areas. What initially appeared to be a sinking slab turned out to involve a substantial loss of support beneath the concrete.
Our team evaluated the affected area, identified the extent of the settlement, and developed a plan to fill the underlying void and restore stability to the existing floor without unnecessary removal and replacement.

The Problem
The property owner had noticed that the floor was sinking and needed to determine how far the concrete had moved.
Using a ZipLevel, our team measured approximately 2.5 inches of settlement from one end of the affected area to the cooler. Further investigation revealed an approximately 8-inch void beneath the concrete slab, leaving a significant portion of the floor without proper support.
A damaged section of drain pipe was also discovered in the affected area. That issue needed to be corrected before the slab could be safely lifted and stabilized.
Identifying What Was Happening Beneath the Slab
Visible settlement is often only part of the problem. In this case, measuring the elevation showed how far the floor had dropped, while further evaluation helped identify the substantial empty space underneath it.
Simply correcting the surface elevation without restoring support below the slab would not have addressed the full problem. The repair needed to both lift the floor and fill the underlying void.
This made a combination of Concrete Leveling & Polyjacking and Void Filling an effective approach for the project.

The Solution
After the drain issue was corrected, Olympic Concrete Lifting began restoring support beneath the affected floor.
Polyurethane foam was injected beneath the concrete through strategically placed injection points. As the material expanded, it filled the approximately eight-inch void, restored support beneath the slab, and allowed our technicians to carefully raise the settled floor toward the desired elevation.
The polyurethane injection process allowed the existing concrete to remain in place while addressing both the visible settlement and the unsupported area beneath it.

The Result
By the end of the project, the large void beneath the Price Chopper floor had been filled and the settled slab was lifted and stabilized.
Instead of removing and replacing the existing interior concrete, Olympic Concrete Lifting was able to restore support from beneath the floor using polyurethane injection. The project addressed a substantial 2.5-inch elevation difference and an approximately 8-inch void while preserving the existing slab.
For commercial properties where floor settlement can affect equipment, operations, or heavily used areas, identifying what is happening beneath the concrete is an important part of determining the right repair.
